Thai rock is a genre of rock music from Thailand. The music genre of rock emerged in the 1980s in Thailand and became widely popular in the 1990s. The sub-genre of string and pop rock began to flourish in the 1980s with bands like Asanee-Wasan and Micro. Later, Thai rock was characterized by bands influenced by rock bands from overseas in the USA and the UK.

Early rock bands in the Thai Rock genre include V.I.P., led by Laem Morison and The Fox musical group, which helped to bring rock music into the popular mainstream.
Classic examples of Thai rock outfits include The Olarn Project, Neua Gub Nang, and Rockestra. Thai rock's most successful bands were Asanee-Wasan and Micro with their popular songs "Meun Fahrenheit (หมื่นฟาเรนไฮต์)" and "Aow Pai Loei (เอาไปเลย)".
Phleng pheua chiwit has since been popularized by Carabao and became best-sellers with the album Made In Thailand, which sold over five million copies.
Another style of music, Heavy metal, emerged from Thai rock, from bands such as Stone Metal Fire, Kaleidoscope, Donpheebin, and Hi-Rock. The Alternative rock bands Moderndog, Silly Fools, Y Not 7, Sepia, Labanoon, Crub, Smile Buffalo, Paradox were also popular. Another popular band was Loso, which released the albums Losociety (1996) and Loso Entertainment (1998).
In the 2000s, Clash released their first album "ONE". Their first single "Guad (Hug)" was a big hit and lead the band to success. Then the band "Kala" released the hit single "My Name is Kala". Big Ass released the album Seven in 2004 with the hit single "Len Kong Soong". The third album by Bodyslam, Believe, was released in April 2005 and made them one of GMM Grammy's premier bands. The success of this album rocketed the band to stardom and took them on a long national tour taking up most of 2005 and some parts of 2006. They won the 4th Annual Fat Awards for "Favorite Album" and Khwam Chuea became "Song of The Year". The Richman Toy launched the single "Aod Aod (อ๊อด อ๊อด)" with its music video a parody of television programs in the 1960s which was about health. In the late 2000s Jui Juis launched the single "Lesson 1 (บทที่ 1)". It is a folk rock song which is popular among young teenagers.
